Why Flow Renovations

A paint job is only as good as the prep underneath it.

Most paint jobs in Cleveland fail within 3-4 years — not because the paint is cheap, but because the prep work was skipped. Cracked caulk lines, peeling spots on siding, drywall imperfections showing through, edges that bled because the tape wasn’t applied right. The paint isn’t failing. The work underneath the paint is.

At Flow Renovations, we work the opposite way: 30-40% of every painting project is prep work before the first drop of paint hits the wall. We patch, sand, prime, caulk, scrape, power-wash, and tape with the same care we give the painting itself. The result is a finish that still looks right 7-10 years later instead of 2-3.

We handle complete interior repaints, exterior house painting, cabinet refinishing, deck staining, trim and door work, and color consultation across the Cleveland metro. Every job uses Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore premium-tier materials. Every project is backed by our lifetime labor warranty. We come back as many times as needed until the work is right.

The Flow Renovations Promise

Lifetime labor warranty. Unlimited inspections until perfection.

Most Cleveland painters give you a 1-year warranty and disappear. We don’t. Every interior or exterior painting project we complete is backed by an unlimited-inspection labor warranty for as long as you own the property — up to a full lifetime.

If you ever notice peeling, bubbling, fading on a non-weathered surface, a missed caulk line, a streak, or any workmanship issue, we come back. As many times as it takes. Until you’re satisfied. No deductible. No surprise fees. No fine print.

It’s the warranty no one else in Cleveland will write — and the reason our paint jobs still look right years later.

What’s covered

  • Unlimited inspections for the lifetime of your ownership of the property — no cap.
  • Free touch-ups on any workmanship issue: missed spots, streaks, caulk failures, bleed-through — no service fee.
  • Peeling repair on any interior surface or properly-prepped exterior at no charge.
  • Satisfaction guaranteed. If the finish doesn’t meet the standard we agreed to, we make it right at our expense.
  • Color records kept for every project: paint codes, sheen, brand, formulas — for future touch-ups or matching.
Interior & Exterior

Two completely different jobs. Same standard of work.

Interior and exterior painting are different trades with different materials, prep requirements, weather considerations, and timelines. We do both — but we never confuse them.

Interior Freshly painted Cleveland-area home interior living room with modern neutral walls

Interior Painting

Walls, ceilings, trim, doors, and accent features throughout your home. We move furniture, protect floors with drop cloths, tape every transition, and prep every wall before painting. Color consultation included. Most single-room jobs finish in 1-3 days; whole-home interiors run 1-2 weeks depending on size.

  • Walls & ceilings — flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss
  • Trim, baseboards, casings — semi-gloss or satin enamel
  • Interior doors — sprayed or rolled
  • Accent walls & feature finishes
  • Drywall repair & patching as part of prep
Exterior Cleveland-area home with freshly painted exterior siding and trim

Exterior House Painting

Siding, trim, fascia, soffits, doors, garage doors, and shutters. Cleveland exteriors take a beating from lake-effect weather, freeze-thaw cycles, and humidity, so we prep aggressively: power-wash, scrape, prime, caulk, and seal before painting. Timing matters — we paint exteriors when weather supports proper cure. Most homes finish in 4-10 working days.

  • Siding — wood, fiber cement, aluminum, vinyl
  • Trim, fascia, soffits — UV-stable enamels
  • Front doors, garage doors, shutters
  • Power-washing included with every exterior
  • Caulking & sealing all gaps and joints

Best forWood decks 3+ years old, sun-faded surfaces, post-winter restoration

06 Painted trim and doors in a Cleveland-area home

Trim, Doors & Detail Painting

Where painting separates pros from amateurs

Trim, baseboards, casings, crown molding, interior doors, and detail work. Often the difference between a paint job that looks “done” and one that looks crafted. Sprayed or hand-brushed in cabinet-grade enamel. 2-4 days for whole-home trim.

Best forOutdated trim, color updates without full repaint, post-paint detail work
The Difference

Why our paint jobs last 3x longer.

The single biggest difference between a paint job that lasts 3 years and one that lasts 10 is what happens before the first drop of paint hits the wall. Most contractors skip prep to save time. We don’t.

Walk into any Cleveland home with a peeling exterior or a hairline crack across a freshly painted wall and you’re looking at the same root cause: prep work was skipped. The painter showed up with a sprayer, blew through the job in two days, and disappeared. The paint stuck for the first year, then started failing as the underlying surface moved.

We work the opposite way. On every Flow Renovations project, prep work is 30-40% of total job hours — equal to or greater than the actual painting time. We patch drywall imperfections. We scrape failed exterior paint. We power-wash siding and let it dry properly. We caulk every gap. We prime every patch, repair, and bare spot. We tape every transition by hand, not by eye.

The result: the paint adheres to a properly prepared surface and holds for years. The finish stays uniform. The lines stay sharp. The work doesn’t need to be redone in three years — and our lifetime labor warranty guarantees it.

Cleveland Specifics

Why Cleveland painting needs local expertise.

Cleveland weather and housing stock create painting challenges that contractors from drier or warmer markets don’t encounter. Knowing these realities is the difference between a finish that lasts and one that fails.

Lake-effect weather is brutal on exteriors.

Cleveland sits in a unique lake-effect climate with high humidity, heavy snow loads, and aggressive freeze-thaw cycles. Exterior paint here works harder than in nearly any U.S. market. We use elastomeric or high-flex exterior coatings that handle expansion and contraction, and we paint within the 50-90°F temperature windows where modern paints cure properly. Painting outside those windows guarantees failure.

Century homes need different prep than modern builds.

Cleveland’s pre-1940 homes in Tremont, Ohio City, Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, and Lakewood often have original plaster walls, hand-built trim, and original wood siding. These surfaces need gentler prep, different primers, and sometimes pre-1978 lead paint testing before any sanding or scraping. We test, document, and work safely within EPA RRP rules on every century home we paint.

Spring and fall are the best exterior windows.

Cleveland’s ideal exterior painting season runs April through November — but the prime windows are May-June and September-October. Mid-summer humidity slows cure times. Mid-winter cold prevents proper cure altogether. We plan exterior projects for the right season. If you call in February for an exterior job, we’ll schedule it for spring rather than rush it into winter.

Cabinet refinishing is a Cleveland sweet spot.

So many Cleveland-area homes have 1990s-2000s oak cabinets that look dated but function fine. Replacing them costs $15-30K+. Refinishing them in a modern color costs roughly 70% less and produces a kitchen that looks brand new. Particularly popular in Westlake, Avon Lake, and Strongsville mid-build homes. We use cabinet-grade enamels that hold up to daily kitchen use for years.

How We Work

Six steps. From estimate to walkthrough.

Painting projects vary from 1 day (single room) to 3 weeks (full exterior + interior). Here’s the full process from first contact to final walkthrough.

01

Free On-Site Estimate

We visit your home, measure rooms or exterior surfaces, evaluate prep needs, discuss color direction, and provide a written itemized quote within 48 hours. No pressure, no commitment.

02

Color Consultation

For projects where you want input, we walk you through SW and Benjamin Moore palettes, sample boards, and on-wall test patches. We don’t apply paint to your home until you’ve seen it in your light.

03

Surface Preparation

The most important phase: furniture moved, floors covered, walls patched and sanded, exterior surfaces power-washed and scraped, every gap caulked, every patch primed. 30-40% of the total job.

04

Priming

Quality primer is non-negotiable, especially on prepped surfaces, bare wood, patches, color changes (light over dark), and exterior repaints. We never skip primer to save time.

05

Painting

Two coats minimum on every surface. Premium SW or Benjamin Moore paint. Sprayed where appropriate (exteriors, cabinet doors), rolled and brushed where it matters (walls, trim).

06

Walkthrough & Warranty

We walk every room or exterior wall with you. Any touch-ups completed before we leave. Lifetime labor warranty documentation, color records, and care guide delivered for your records.

Answers

Cleveland homeowners ask us.

The questions we hear most often from homeowners researching painting projects.

  • Cleveland interior painting typically runs $2-6 per square foot of wall surface depending on prep needs, ceiling height, trim work, and finish level. A single 12x14 bedroom averages $400-900. A whole-home interior repaint averages $4,000-12,000 depending on size, trim work, and ceilings. Rather than quote inaccurate ranges, we provide free on-site estimates with detailed itemized quotes within 48 hours.
  • Exterior painting costs vary significantly based on home size, siding type, story count, prep requirements, and trim complexity. Typical Cleveland-area homes run $4,000-15,000 for complete exterior repaints with our prep standard. Older homes requiring extensive scraping, lead-safe practices, or significant repair work run higher. Free on-site estimates with itemized quotes provided within 48 hours.
  • A single accent wall takes 1 day. A single bedroom takes 1-2 days. A whole-home interior repaint takes 1-2 weeks. Cabinet refinishing takes 5-10 days. Full exterior painting runs 4-10 working days depending on home size and weather. Most exterior delays come from rain or temperature; we won’t paint outside the correct cure window even if it adds days to the schedule.
  • We use Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore premium-tier products as standard — SW Duration, Emerald, ProClassic, or Benjamin Moore Aura, Regal, Advance, depending on the application. Premium paints cost more upfront but cover better, last longer, and are essential for the lifetime warranty. We don’t use builder-grade or contractor-grade paints. We can use other brands if you specifically request.
  • Yes. Cabinet refinishing is one of our most-requested services. We remove doors and drawer fronts, sand all surfaces, prime with adhesion primer, spray with cabinet-grade enamel (Benjamin Moore Advance or SW Emerald Urethane), and reinstall. Optional new hardware. Most kitchens take 5-10 working days. Cost is typically 60-75% less than full cabinet replacement.
  • Yes, in nearly every case. We work room-by-room and seal off areas being painted with plastic and drop cloths. Modern low-VOC paints have minimal odor. The only situations requiring relocation are very small homes where the painting blocks all bathrooms or bedrooms simultaneously, or chemically sensitive household members. We discuss disruption during the estimate and plan accordingly.
  • Yes. Color consultation is included with every project. We walk you through SW or Benjamin Moore palettes, talk through your home’s natural light, existing finishes, and the look you want, and recommend coordinated palettes. For full-home jobs, we provide sample boards. For larger projects, we paint test patches on actual walls before committing. We don’t paint anything until you’re sure.
  • Pre-1978 homes can have lead-based paint in original layers, which becomes hazardous during scraping, sanding, or surface prep. Federal EPA RRP (Renovation, Repair, Painting) rules require lead-safe practices on any pre-1978 home where prep disturbs more than 6 square feet of interior or 20 square feet of exterior. We’re EPA-certified, follow all containment and cleanup requirements, and test surfaces when needed. Your safety is non-negotiable.
  • Cheap painting quotes come from one of three places: builder-grade paint instead of premium, prep work skipped or rushed, or unlicensed/uninsured contractors. All three save money short-term and cost money long-term. A $3,000 paint job that fails in 3 years costs more than a $6,000 paint job that lasts 10 years. Our lifetime labor warranty exists because we’re willing to stand behind the work. Cheap quotes don’t come with that.
  • Yes. Flow Renovations is fully licensed and insured for painting projects in Cuyahoga County and the greater Cleveland area. We carry general liability and workers compensation. Proof of insurance is provided before any contract is signed. Never hire an uninsured painter, especially for exterior work involving ladders or scaffolding — you become liable for injuries on your property.
