Century homes have hidden floors.
In Tremont, Ohio City, Cleveland Heights, and Lakewood, we regularly find original oak, maple, or pine hardwood buried under two or three layers of subsequent flooring — vinyl, carpet, and sometimes another layer of engineered wood. Before you spend money on new floors, it's worth checking what's underneath. Less than most homeowners expect. We work in single zones at a time, dust-control with plastic sheeting and HEPA-filtered vacuums, and clean every evening. You can typically remain in your home throughout the project — just not in the room being installed. For full hardwood refinishing, plan to be out of the house for 2-3 days during the staining and final coat phase due to fumes.
